SPRINGFIELD — The city and Baystate Medical Center received a trifecta of awards on Thursday, honored for their commitment to policies and services to senior citizens, while the city was also recognized for being a dementia-friendly community.

James Fuccione, senior director of the Massachusetts Healthy Aging Collaborative, said Springfield became the first city in the nation to receive an “age friendly community” designation and a “dementia-friendly community” designation at the same time as its local medical center was recognized as an “age-friendly” health system.
